Who We Are

Ghana's National Safety Network

The Community Integrated Anti-Violence Advocacy Network (CIAVAN) is a non-partisan civil society organization dedicated to building safer, more peaceful, and more resilient communities across Ghana. Through structured advocacy, education, youth empowerment, and community engagement, we equip citizens to take an active role in preventing violence and promoting responsible citizenship.

Born out of a decade of personal commitment and sacrifice by our Founding Patron-General, CIAVAN has grown from a community advocacy initiative into a national movement with chapters, volunteers, and partners across Ghana's 16 regions.

Our Vision

A Ghana where every community is safe, peaceful, and resilient — where citizens are empowered to build a violence-free society.

Our Mission

To build Ghana's most impactful network for violence prevention, peacebuilding, and civic engagement — reaching every school, community, and institution.

What We Do Get Involved
Our Focus Areas

Nine Pillars of Safety & Peace

Everything CIAVAN does flows through these nine interconnected focus areas — each addressing a specific and critical dimension of community safety and civic wellbeing.

Violence Prevention

Targeted education and community organizing that stops violence before it starts — in homes, schools, and public spaces.

Peacebuilding

Dialogue, conflict prevention, and reconciliation campaigns — especially critical during election seasons.

Public Safety Education

Practical safety training delivered in partnership with Ghana Police Service, Fire Service, and NADMO.

Civic Engagement

Building informed citizens who understand their rights, fulfil their duties, and participate actively in democracy.

Youth Leadership

Developing Ghana's next civic leaders through school clubs, campus chapters, and the national leadership camp.

Community Resilience

Building communities that protect themselves through organized Safety Committees and emergency preparedness.

GBV Prevention

Engaging communities and schools to prevent gender-based violence and promote healthy, respectful relationships.

Human Trafficking Prevention

Raising awareness about safe migration and trafficking risks in vulnerable communities near Ghana's borders.

Disaster Preparedness

Training communities to prepare for floods, fires, and emergencies in partnership with NADMO and Fire Service.

“For over a decade, DCOP Raymond Adofiem has been the unwavering driving force behind one of Ghana's most dedicated community safety movements. As a distinguished serving officer of the Ghana Police Service, DCOP Adofiem witnesses firsthand the devastating consequences of violence in communities, schools, and public spaces — and resolved that prevention, not just response, was the answer Ghana needed.

Through his pioneering Project Banbo Initiative, he began channelling personal resources, professional networks, and institutional knowledge into community safety advocacy. For twelve consecutive years, he has personally funded, championed, and sustained this mission — out of a deep belief that every Ghanaian child deserves to grow up in a safe, peaceful environment.

In 2015, that commitment gave birth to the Youth Anti-Violence Advocacy Project (YAVAP) — a structured youth-focused initiative that reached schools, markets, transport terminals, and communities across Greater Accra, Eastern, Volta, and Oti regions. It was through his guidance, vision, and continued personal investment that YAVAP evolved into the Community Integrated Anti-Violence Advocacy Network (CIAVAN) — the national institution it is today.

CIAVAN Zongo Chapter

CIAVAN has established its first community-specific chapter in the Ayawaso North Municipality in Accra — the CIAVAN Zongo Chapter — reaching some of Accra's most underserved urban communities with practical safety education, civic engagement, and community development activities.

Community Clean-Up Exercises

Mobilizing Zongo community members to take pride in their environment — clearing drains, cleaning streets, and creating healthier, safer spaces for residents to live and work.

Public Education & Civic Engagement

Delivering safety education, civic responsibility messages, and community dialogue sessions directly in Zongo communities — in local languages and through trusted community channels.

Government & Institutional Engagement

The chapter has already held a productive meeting with the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Ayawaso North, establishing a formal relationship with the district government to support community development initiatives.

Our Zongo Chapter Vision

To establish active CIAVAN Zongo Chapters across all major Zongo communities in Ghana — building organized, educated, and empowered urban communities that are part of the national safety network.
